One Next Step in a Goal Cycle?

Each Goal Cycle entry only has room for one next step.

Which means we only get one checkbox in the cycle.

And one checkmark per entry on the board.

Why?

We should try to work on only one experiment at a time for a specific goal. Having one experiment going means we can focus on that experiment and reduce confounding variables. Having one experiment forces us to ask: what is the single most important experiment I can try?

Brainstorming

But it’s not always that simple. Maybe two experiments will run in parallel because one takes a while. Maybe in a single Goal Cycle we come up with 10 ideas.

The primary tool for dealing with this is an infinite canvas: I recommend every Goal Cycle have an infinite canvas for brainstorming as the first entry.

This brainstorming canvas is where we can store all your ideas and draw out parallel experiments. We can write out ideas, prioritize them, and maybe even chunk them.

Todo Items

In the cases where we really do want multiple Next Steps, we can add a Todo list item to our goal cycle.

We can click on the Todo option to add a new Todo list item.

We can edit the Todo item by typing in its textbox.
